New Year, New Green Houses
Happy 2020 everyone! Londonderry Village is ringing in the New Year with the opening of two new Green Houses. For those of you who might not know, a Green House is a ranch style home with ten private bedrooms and bathrooms that provide skilled nursing care to those elders in need. Here at Londonderry Village we already have four Green Houses: Castagna, Fake, Royer and Hostetter, and we plan to open two new ones very shortly.
As we look to the future and continue to make improvements on campus, we have made the decision to close our Tranquil Terrace unit for renovation and future use. The elders currently residing in Tranquil Terrace will be moved to our new Green Houses.
As our teams are diligently working to furnish and clean these new Green Houses, we have several CNA’s that have decided to be trained as future shahbazim (which are CNA’s that work in our Green Houses). They have extra training so they can provide additional services to our elders such as cooking and laundry. In a traditional nursing unit the cooking and laundry would be completed by those respective departments, not by CNA’s.
The Green House is a family-type atmosphere where all the elders needs can be fulfilled inside the home. The training for these new shahbazim took place the last week of January. They spent the entire week in the Green Houses learning all the ins and outs of how to properly provide care for our elders. Tim, our Head Chef, was in the Green Houses during that week teaching our staff how to properly prepare and cook home cooked meal for our elders.
All of us here at Londonderry Village are very excited for the two new Green Houses to open. We appreciate all the time and effort it took to design, build, furnish and train the staff for our new nursing buildings.
For more information about the care we provide in our Green House’s please call our Case Manager, Stacy Light at 717-838-5406 ext. 3050.
