Acrylic Painting Class
Bob Ross said “All you need to paint is a few tools, a little instruction, and a vision in your mind.” This is something that SallyAnn Arndt has been using as a motto in her life for quite some time. SallyAnn has been an artist most of her life while also encouraging others to be artists through her many art classes she has taught at her house and for the Hershey Christian School.
At Londonderry Village we are always looking for new ways for our residents to get involved, have fun and grow their skills. With our newly renovated art studio thanks to our Londonderry Village Auxiliary, this seemed like a great place for SallyAnn to share her special talents with our residents. SallyAnn who is co-president of our auxiliary and also runs our Village Boutique alongside Jo Albright is always looking for new ways to get involved with resident life.
6 weeks ago SallyAnn offered her first Acrylic painting art class. This first session was free for any resident to attend as SallyAnn graciously donated all the materials needed. Every Tuesday afternoon for 1-2 hours’ residents gather in our art room to hear instruction from SallyAnn on proper ways to first draw and then paint a picture. Their first project they completed was a sunflower. When asked why this was chosen as the first project SallyAnn had this to say “A sunflower is easy to complete, its full of color and I know everyone who attends will bring their own personal touch to what they think a sunflower should look like.”
While attending these classes I noticed our residents meticulously working on blending the perfect shades of color and texture to bring the flower to life. It was refreshing to hear the small talk as residents joked around, gave creative help and enjoyed each other’s company while they perfected their painting. “She is totally awesome says one resident. This is a dream come true. I always wanted to do art but never had anyone to help me.”
Although SallyAnn’s first session is now complete she will be starting a new one after the holidays. This is open to all Londonderry Village residents. If you are interested in joining in on the next class or have questions, call Trudy Kern at 717-838-5406 ext. 3048.
