Charitable Giving

CHARITABLE GIVING

Londonderry Village is a “caring community” where residents help care for one another socially, emotionally, physically, spiritually and financially.  Financial support to our elders comes by way of residents participating in Londonderry Village’s fundraising efforts that support our mission and ministry.  Our Good Samaritan Fund (GSF) is a primary focus of our fundraising efforts. The Good Samaritan Fund exists to help cover the cost of care for residents in skilled nursing and personal care who can no longer afford to pay all of their own expenses.  Benevolent care each year is approximately $2 million.

GIVING OPPORTUNITIES
Individuals make donations to help accomplish various aspects of our mission.                                                 Donors contribute to the Good Samaritan Fund in several ways:

Buddy Society – Members of the Buddy Society help provide ongoing support to the GSF through annual gifts of $1,000.  Membership is granted upon receipt of a signed Commitment Form indicating the intent to contribute a minimum of five thousand dollars over a period of five years.

Memorials and Tributes – Remember a loved one or friend through a memorial gift. Families are notified that you have made a gift (not the amount of the gift) when you provide a name and address for this purpose.  Our tribute brick program also offers a tangible way to honor or remember friends and loved ones.  Memorial envelopes and tribute brick pamphlets are available.

Event Participation – As a sponsor, patron or participant at these events, you are contributing to the Good Samaritan Fund:

Mother’s Day Celebration & Butterfly Release (May)

Chicken BBQ & Auction (July)

Cathy Snell Memorial Golf Tournament (September)

Good Samaritan Fund Dinner (October)

Making Spirits Bright Luminary Event (December)

General Contributions – Any gift to Londonderry Village can be directed to the GSF.

PLANNED GIVING / LEGACY GIVING

Planned giving / legacy giving is an easy way to make a gift of any size.  Making a charitable gift through your will allows you to create an extraordinary future beyond your lifetime. Donors can direct designations to the Good Samaritan Fund or the Londonderry Village Endowment Fund.  All who name Londonderry Village as a beneficiary of a will, trust, retirement plan, life insurance policy, life income gift or other type of planned giving arrangement are recognized regardless of the size of the bequest or planned gift.  Please make a member of the Development Department aware of your legacy gift plans for proper recognition.

Wills & Bequests – an excellent way to support Londonderry Village’s mission and ministry is leaving a bequest in your will or living trust.  A benefit of making a bequest it that you can often maximize your gift. Designate in your will a specific amount, a percentage of your estate or outline more detailed instructions. With a bequest, you remain in control of the funds or property during your lifetime while reducing estate taxes.

Charitable Gift Annuities – Give while you receive. Transfer money to a charitable gift annuity and receive income for life, a portion may be tax-free. When you donate funds to Londonderry Village now through a Charitable Gift Annuity you receive a tax break in the year the gift is made as well as quarterly payments throughout your life. Upon settlement of your estate, the remainder of the charitable gift annuity will go to Londonderry Village as a planned gift.  Annuity rates vary by age and a minimum dollar amount is required.

Charitable Remainder Trusts – A charitable remainder trust is an irrevocable trust to distribute a fixed percentage of the value of its asset to a beneficiary and, at the expiration of a specified time, the remaining balance of the assets are distributed to charity.  Trusts for larger gifts offer options that can benefit Londonderry Village as well as your family. They also provide current tax advantages.

Endowments – charitable gifts to Londonderry Village are invested, and earnings can be disbursed in annual support to Londonderry Village for years.  By prudently investing your initial donation, you are able to establish a more lasting impact.

Donor Advised Funds – a donor advised fund offers a flexible and easy-to-establish vehicle for charitable giving.  Use it at any time to support Londonderry Village.

Other Planned GiftsNaming Londonderry Village as a Beneficiary
You can name Londonderry Village as a beneficiary of your will, life insurance, or an IRA. This is an easy way to make a donation of any size.

Life Insurance – Londonderry Village can be named as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy with designations for the total or a portion to be received by Londonderry Village.

IRA – Residuals in retirement accounts can be gifted to Londonderry Village, thus avoiding tax implications for family members.
